Once again the Cub Pack have been working very hard. To end the year of 2005 the Cubs worked on the Emergency 1st Aid Badge. Over two evenings the Cub Pack learnt to resuscitate, use slings, deal with shock, choking, asthma attacks, poisoning, treat different types of bums, know the recovery position and also know DRABC which stands for - Danger, Response, Airways, Breathing, Circulation. I think you will agree that this is quite a lot for 8 -10 1/2 year olds but I was very surprised with their eagerness to learn. All these procedures were taught and demonstrated by Mrs. Sheila Smith, a highly trained and very busy nurse with three children and a home to run. She also gave up another night from her very busy schedule to test the Cubs (thankfully they all passed). A very big thank you to Sheila from the Pack.
Another night was spent learning knots, once again the Cubs found this evening fun.
The year 2006 marks 90 years of Cub Scouts. With lots of events and activities planned we should have a lot to look forward to.
If there are any adults out there who would like to come and join us and join in the fun by helping the Cub Pack, do get in touch with me or any of the Leaders associated with both Cubs and Scouts. We are always in need of other willing helpers.
