Scout Report

It has been a busy six months for the Scouts, nothing changes! The highlights have been the District Camp to France. We took thirteen Scouts and three Leaders to the beautiful Dordogne Valley where the Scouts enjoyed a day caving, climbing and abseiling on a cliff that was fifty feet high. The next day was spent canoeing down the River Dordogne. Finally, the Scouts completed a gentle hike in the local area they were slightly disappointed when the sign pointing to Mont Blanc only meant the local farmhouse.

In July we took the Scouts and their intrepid fathers for a weekend of water activities on the River Thames in Marlow. The scheduled activities were canoeing, sailing, kayaking, bell-boating, air rifles, a trip down the river and rowing. The unscheduled activities included capsizing, some fathers were better at capsizing than they were at staying in the boats. The final activity was Dragon boating

Following this Camp I had the privilege of presenting Clive Jeffree with a letter of congratulations from Peter Duncan, the Chief Scout. This was to mark Clive's 365th Night Camping with the Cubs and Scouts. Our parents had also found out about this remarkable achievement and Clive was also presented with a gold tent peg to mark his 1 year under canvas.

During our Wednesday evening meetings, the Scouts have been building some Crazy Golf games, which you will be able to use at the Summer fete next year. Recently they have been learning about first aid, map and compass skills, cooking and camp menus. All this is in preparation for the Hiker's Badge and as the training for the Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award Expedition for our older Scouts. The hikes will take place during October.
