A Word From the Village Magazine Editor

Summer 2006 Edition

You cannot fail to notice the magazine cover which has now launched into colour. I hope you think, as I do, that it is a great improvement, and well worth the extra printing cost. Because of this cost, the advertising price has gone up a little, the first rise for some time. I can no longer offer full page adverts, as space is at a premium, and whilst appreciating the value of the adverts, I do not want our magazine to resemble the Yellow Advertiser!

Talking of appreciation, I would like to use this editorial, to give credit, glory and appreciation to all the support workers of Village Events. I have recently been responsible for two events - "The History of Ramsden" and "The Drop in Daffodil Day," both of which were socially and financially a great success. I received a great deal of praise and gratitude. (I love it!) But behind me there is literally an army of helpers, without whom I could not possible manage. At one point I thought I would mention them all by name, but when I reached twenty-five names and more, I gave up the idea! They print leaflets and posters, deliver the leaflets, put up posters, transport the exhibits, put out the tables, help with the layout, (pause for breath) make cakes (without charging) lend exhibits, make tea and coffee, steward, sell books etc, help clear up and count the money - and that's only the History of Ramsden!

Similarly they leap into action for the Daffodil Day, giving raffle prizes, daffodils, cakes etc, etc. Their help is invaluable and I bet you're wondering what I do! Well I'm not called Bossy for nothing!

So whilst these events raise a goodly sum, the credit must go equally to my army of willing helpers, without whom this would not be possible. Finally and in the same vein my thanks to all those involved with the production, advertising and delivery of this magazine. Entries for the Winter 2006 by September 20th please.

A Word From the Village Magazine Editor

Winter 2005 Edition

For the first time ever all the articles etc.. have come in before I put pen to paper with my "Word". So there is no excuse for me not to do a proper editorial commenting on the magazine content. I notice that many of you have thought that weatherwise the summer has been poor. I really cannot go along with that. My arms are well stretched with carrying cans of water and dragging hosepipes to a garden wilting in heat and drought. All I can say that my garden had a hot dry summer and I've got big cracks in the ground to prove it.

There is no "Bygone Years" this time. This is due to lack of space. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, contributors to the next magazine do not exceed more than 530 words, (less is fine) including the headings.

Reviewing the events of the summer it seems to me that a lot goes on here, and of course these things don't just happen. In life we fill our lives with things we want to do, or have to do, which is right and proper. If however you feel you would like to be a bit more involved in local events, we badly need you. Relevant phone numbers are in the back of this magazine, and most sections will welcome you with open arms - if not grab you quickly lest you escape!

A nag to whom it may concern about the state of our pavements. They are awful, broken up and full of holes. Can we hope for any improvement in the future?

In May I asked for photos of section activities for the front cover. Well - the postman didn't need an extra sack to deliver them, as I received precisely none! Another brilliant idea wasted! So on the front cover, I feature Cyril Pegram who did the fabulous bike ride from Land's End to John O'Groats for the Village charity. He doesn't like me to say his age, but he is older than me, and I've got a big birthday coming up next year (no it's not 100!) Well done to Cyril and his driver Dennis.

Talking of Senior Moments (mine not Cyril's) I lost my shopping list yesterday, and wasted precious time hunting for it. Well it was nearly published in this Magazine, for I had filed it neatly in the copy to go for typesetting!

My usual thanks to all those involved with the production, advertising and delivery of this magazine. Entries for Summer 2006 by March 20th - Please.
