| Macmillan Cancer Support | Macmillan improves the lives of
people affected by cancer locally. We provide practical, medical,
emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care. Cancer
affects us all. We can all help. We are Macmillan in Essex In this area there are already 70 Macmillan nurses working locally, in hospitals and the community. However, more local people are being diagnosed with cancer every week. We are now raising £2.5 million in Essex so that we can help more cancer patients get the treatment that they need. So far an amazing £2 million has been achieved. |

| Wickford and District Talking Newspaper | Our Talking Newspaper is produced by
a team of local unpaid volunteers who share the tasks of editing,
reading and recording the news from a selection of local newspapers onto
a master tape. This is then copied on a high speed copier to produce one
audio cassette tape for each recipient.
We produce a weekly newstape and two monthly magazines, thus providing news, views and information on a regular basis to all our listeners. There is no charge whatsoever to the listeners for any part of the service. Wickford and District Talking Newspaper for the Blind is a member of the Talking News Federation. |
After a voting process which entitles all people at the Annual General Meeting to vote for one of the nominated Charities.
The vote saw Macmillan Cancer Care receive the most votes and we are delighted that we have an outstanding charity that does so much for local people that we will all be working for this year. However, after the voting is over, there is always a feeling that "the other charities all deserve so much support as well - it is so hard to choose between them" as one person described her feelings.
This year, please look at the web sites for both the nominated charities.
