| Wickford and District Talking Newspaper | Our Talking Newspaper is produced by
a team of local unpaid volunteers who share the tasks of editing,
reading and recording the news from a selection of local newspapers onto
a master tape. This is then copied on a high speed copier to produce one
audio cassette tape for each recipient.
We produce a weekly newstape and two monthly magazines, thus providing news, views and information on a regular basis to all our listeners. There is no charge whatsoever to the listeners for any part of the service. Wickford and District Talking Newspaper for the Blind is a member of the Talking News Federation In the past year, we have taken over responsibility for the Basildon Talking Newspaper, 'The Town Crier,' which has doubled the number of our Listeners. |

| Motor Neurone Society | South Essex Branch of the Motor
Neurone Disease Association has the sole aim of serving all those in the
area who are affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND). We are an
enthusiastic and committed group of local people who work together to
provide emotional and practical support for people affected by MND, this
includes people with MND, their carers, family and friends. MND affects more than 5,000 people in this country at any one time. It attacks the nerve cells responsible for muscle control. It stops people doing everyday things like walking, talking and eating. It leaves the intellect mainly unaffected. It is ultimately fatal within 2 - 5 years for the majority of people. At the moment there is no cure. |
